Add Your Custom Domain URL

How to connect a custom whitelabel domain for your users to login to.

Updated over 2 months ago

General Step-by-Step Guide (Applies to Most Providers)

  1. Log in to your Domain Registrar: Access the account where you purchased your domain name (e.g., GoDaddy, Google Domains, etc.).

  2. Find DNS Management: Locate the DNS management or DNS settings area. This might be labeled as "DNS Zone Editor," "Manage DNS," "Advanced DNS," or something similar. It's usually in a section related to managing your domain.

  3. Locate A Records: Within the DNS management section, find the list of existing DNS records. You'll likely see A records, CNAME records, MX records, etc.

  4. Create or Edit an A Record:

    • Create (If the subdomain doesn't exist):

      • Type: Select "A" (for A record).

      • Host/Name: Enter the subdomain part only. In this case, enter nutrition. Do not enter the full domain name here. Many registrars will automatically add the main domain.

      • Value/Points to/IP Address: Enter the IP address: 37.16.28.154

      • TTL (Time to Live): You can usually leave this at the default value (often 3600 seconds, or 1 hour). A lower TTL means changes propagate faster, but can increase DNS lookup load. A higher TTL means changes take longer to take effect, but reduces load. Start with the default and adjust if needed.

    • Edit (If the subdomain already exists):

      • Find the existing A record for the nutrition subdomain.

      • Change the Value/Points to/IP Address to 37.16.28.154

      • Keep the TTL the same or adjust as needed (see above).

  5. Save Changes: Make sure to save or update the DNS records. It's crucial to save; otherwise, the changes won't take effect.

  6. Propagation Time: DNS changes don't happen instantly. It takes time for the updated records to propagate across the internet. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours, though it's often much faster (usually within an hour or two). You can use online tools like whatsmydns.net to check the propagation status.

Troubleshooting

  • Incorrect IP Address: Double-check that you've entered the IP address (37.16.28.154) correctly.

  • Typo in Subdomain: Ensure you've typed the subdomain (nutrition) correctly, without any extra spaces or characters.

  • Propagation Delay: Remember the propagation time. If you've just made the changes, give it some time. Use a DNS checker to monitor progress.

  • Conflicting Records: In rare cases, you might have other DNS records (like a CNAME) that conflict with the A record. If you're unsure, contact your domain registrar's support.

  • Existing @ record: Some providers, especially if you have email set up through them, might have an A record for @ (which represents the root domain, e.g., domain.com). If that's pointed to the same server you intend to use for this subdomain, you might be able to leave it. If the plan is for the bare domain and the subdomain to point to different servers, make sure the @ record points to the IP for your main website. If you are moving everything (the main domain and this subdomain) to the new IP address, change the @ record to the new IP as well.

  • Contact Support: If you've followed the steps carefully and are still having trouble, don't hesitate to contact your domain registrar's customer support. They can help you troubleshoot the specific issue.
