How to Add Ingredients and Create a Custom Food Item in the Nutritional Database

This article guides you through the process of creating custom food items and adding ingredients to the Nutrogen Nutritional Database

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Navigate to Food Databases: From the Nutrogen dashboard, go to the "Nutrition" section in the left-hand navigation menu, and then click "Food Databases" (0:19).

  2. Click "Create Food": In the top right corner of the "Nutritional Database" page, click the "+ Create Food" button (0:12).

  3. Enter Food Details: The "Create Food" form will open. Fill in the following details:

    • "50" as that is the standardised rate with which the nutrition system operates with.

    • Food Name: Enter the name of the food item.

    • Total Calories:

    • Protein: (in grams)

    • Carbohydrates: (in grams)

    • Fat: (in grams) (You will notice the calories are automatically calculated based on information filled in here.)

    • If the item has alcohol, click the box to expand and enter alcohol information.

  4. Enter additional details about fats by clicking on "fats." This will open the menu for information about saturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, trans fats, and monounsaturated fats.

  5. Enter Micronutrient information: Scroll down to micronutrient section to include information on vitamins, supplements, and the different minerals that are included in the ingredient you are adding.

  6. Add Labels: Click "+ Add labels" to select labels for the food item. (0:22) You can then add food and health labels to this entry.

  7. Click Create Food: click the "create food" button (1:22). to save your entry.

  8. Verify Addition: A success message stating "Food Created" will appear. Click "Done." The new food item will be added at the top of the food list.
