How to Edit and Add Custom Food Items to the Nutritional Database

This article explains how Nutrogen administrators can edit a copy of the food items from the official nutrition database

Step-by-Step Guide :

  1. Navigate to Food Databases: From the Nutrogen dashboard, go to the "Nutrition" section in the left-hand navigation menu, and then click "Food Databases" (0:18).

  2. Custom Foods: Use the drop down menu to filter on custom food items (0:02), as you may be unable to edit official database food items.

  3. Select Edit Icon: Locate the food item that you would like to make a copy of to edit. Click the "Edit Icon" located to the right of the ingredient list.

  4. Select "Continue" from the popup message: ** This will save the food as a custom item. Please note: calorie values may differ from the original due to system calculations.

  5. Edit Copy: A form will open with the option to edit a copy of the database item. You can change

    • amount the ingredient is based upon.

    • You can select the units to be based upon, using the Metric System:
      *upload an image.

    • Add or change the nutritional name, the caloric value, grams of protein, fats, and carbs, and choose if the item contains alcohol.

    • You can also add more information about the breakdown of the macro nutrient that is being added. To do so:
      *click the drop down menus to add more comprehensive nutritional details for the new food items.

  6. Select Labels: To properly label, search, and categorise your custom ingredient, you have the option of labeling what type of food it is or adding further details about the health, alleriges, or special dietary restrictions that apply to the food.

  7. Save Changes: On the bottom right of your screen, select Save as custom food! If edits have been successfully saved, then a success message will pop up on the screen to indicate that the new custom food item has been saved into the nutrition database.
