This article explains how to effectively search for food ingredients within the Nutrogen platform's Nutritional Database

Updated over 2 months ago

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Access the Nutritional Database:

    • Log in to the Nutrogen platform.

    • Navigate to the "Nutrition" section in the left-hand menu.

    • Select "Food Databases". (Screenshot at 0:05-0:07 shows the navigation to the food database)

  2. Initiate a Basic Search:

    • Click within the "Search by name" box. (Screenshot at 0:52 shows the search box)

    • Enter the name of the food ingredient you are looking for.

    • To get the most accurate results, utilize multiple descriptive words to describe the ingredient (1:57).

    • To further refine the search, proceed to the filter option. (Screenshot at 1:21-1:23)

  3. Choosing How to Sort Your Search

    • You can sort your search by Name or Category in the Name drop down box (Screenshot at 0:41-0:47)

  4. Utilizing Search Filters:

    • The "All Databases" dropdown allows for search within custom or official databases. (Screenshot at 0:23-0:24). Limiting search to official databases reduces the risk of false information.

    • Note that if limitations to database visibility exist, the search will be restricted to preselected databases (0:33-0:37).

  5. Tips for Effective Searching:

    • Be specific: To avoid a broad list of results, use multiple keywords that describe the food ingredient more precisely. For example, instead of "beef", try "beef mince lean". (Screenshot at 1:34-1:41 shows the effect of including the word 'lean' in the search.)

    • Review results: Once you have a list of potential ingredients, carefully review the nutritional information and source to ensure it's the correct item.
